The Impacts of a Transition Planning Program based on Self-Determination Skills on the Transition Planning Awareness, Self-determination, and Adaptive Behaviors of Students with Intellectual Disabilities in the Vocational Education Class of a Special School

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of a transition planning program based on self-determination skills on the transition planning awareness, self-determination, and adaptive behaviors of students with intellectual disabilities in the vocational education class of a special school. The research design was a pre-and post- test control group design. Sixteen students were assigned into the experimental group, and 16 students were assigned into the control group. The intervention was a transition planning program based on self-determination skills. The dependent variables were transition planning awareness, self-determination, and adaptive behaviors of students. For analysis of data, two independent sample t-tests and percentage were used. The study results were as follows: (1) There was a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group on the student awareness of transition planning evaluated by teachers; (2) According to student rating, their perceptions of transition planning were improved. (3) According to teacher rating, there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group on the 4 sub-areas of self-determination skills evaluated by the Self-Determination Scale for People with Disabilities in Transition; (4) There was a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group on the adaptive behaviors evaluated by teachers.
